Dunvegan is a friendly village on the shores of Loch Dunvegan, which is situated on the northwest coast of Skye. It is very popular due to its location, it's an ideal base as it offers local attractions, activities and facilities. Dunvegan is a superb and easy place for touring and exploring the rest of the island

For 800 years the castle has been the ancestral home to the Chiefs of Clan MacLeod

Giant MacAskill Museum

The Guinness Book of Records recorded Angus MacAskill as a true giant, he stood 7foot-9inches tall. Born 1825 - Died 1863.

Coral Beach

Although there are only a few beaches on Skye the Coral Beach has spectacular views of Skye's highest sea cliffs, Dunvegan Head.

Glendale Peninsula

On the road to Glendale is the Colbost Croft Museum, showing the typical 19th century living conditions.

Just beyond Glendale village is Neist Point, where a lighthouse was built in 1909 but the only way to see it is to walk to it. (Nice Walk).

Also on the peninsula is the Piping Heritage Centre.

Waternish Peninsula

Skyeskyns, tanners use old traditional methods and tools, maintaining one of the oldest crafts.

Diver's Eye Boat Trips, let yourself relax whilst taking a boat trip, look out for seals, dolphins, otters, whales and sea birds not to mention the views from the sea to the mainland

Post Office

Dunvegan has a charming little Post Office and a Post Mistress with a bubbly personality who is very friendly and helpful. Stamps, cards, birthday cards and other trinkets can be purchased here.

The Fasgadh Stores is an amazing little shop, as it's like an Aladdin's cave. It carries quite a variety of stock, whatever your need the shop will probably have it.

Further Places to Visit

Portree the islands capital has a Tourist Information Office which offers plenty of books, leaflets and maps on all the attractions to see and do within the area. The Harbour is quite colourful as many of the properties are painted in individual colours.

Aros centre situated towards the outskirts of Portree is well worth a visit, its a busy place as it houses the cinema, restaurant, shop and St Kilda exhibition.

Talisker Distillery, Talisker whisky is the only malt to be distilled on Skye. The distillery is set in the village of Carbost over looking Loch Harport

The Old Man of Storr is a pinnacle of rock that stands approximately 2,300 feet it forms part of an outcrop that stands in front of Storr Ridge.
